How to Install a WordPress Plugin

Last Updated: 12/11/2018 · By: Sunil Dogra

WordPress comes with many handy free and paid plugins that can help bloggers to customize their blogs easily and get discovered by search engines. Plugins help to increase blog functionality and also plugins like Yoast SEO help us make our blog posts search engine friendly (this is why I reluctantly migrated my blogspot blog to WP). If you’re new to WP then you might not know how to install a WordPress plugin and also how to uninstall one that is unnecessary. Here we’ll see step by step how can we install and uninstall WordPress plugins. Here I would like mention that plugins are only available for self-hosted wordpress.org blogs not for wordpress.com.

It’s a very easy process with a few clicks you can install a plugin. Let’s see how to install a WP plugin.

install wordpress plugins

First of all, get access to your WordPress dashboard and then, from the sidebar, move your mouse cursor on ‘Plugins’ and then click on ‘Add New’.

Next you’ll be able to see list of plugins. To install a plugin choose one from the list or if you’re looking for a specific plugin then search for it in search box for example to install an SEO plugin I searched ‘SEO plugin’ and I got a list of relevant plugins. Once you find a plugin that you want to install then click on ‘Install Now’.

Once plugin gets installed, click on ‘Activate’ to activate and use that plugin.

Now, from the sidebar, click on ‘Installed Plugins’ and then from installed plugins choose your newly installed and do required settings.

That’s it. If you know coding then you can also upload and install a plugin manually. For that purpose, in New Plugins section you can find Upload button at the top of the page.
